TÉNUE
for viola, percussion and electronics
“Ténue,” for viola, percussion, and electronics, is a work in seven movements composed by Hugo Vasco Reis, presented as a single 44-minute piece within the Sonic Figures Project – a contemporary and experimental music project developed in collaboration by Hugo Vasco Reis (concept, composition, and electronics), Trevor McTait (viola), and Miquel Bernat (percussion).
The methodology is based on the collection, through field recordings, of sounds in very diverse sound environments, such as sounds inside trees, underwater sounds, vibrations in structures, among others, which are mapped, orchestrated, stratified, spatialized and mediated for viola, percussion and electronics, originating the artistic discourse.
Through a collaborative and experimental artistic practice, the aim is to find ways to understand the phenomenon of listening to and mediating a silent sonic environment, in relation to ecology, civilization, body and thought as generative forces in the construction of knowledge.
This works was supported by Ministry of Culture of Portugal, Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores and Antena 2 (Portuguese classical radio).
